Non-governmental instruments for biodiversity conservation in agricultural landscapes / Nicht-staatliche Instrumente zum Erhalt der Biodiversität in der Agrarlandschaft
Supervisor: Jun.-Prof. Arndt Feuerbacher / Hannah Bücheler
The continuous decline in biodiversity in European agricultural landscapes requires far-reaching changes in the agricultural and food system in order to halt and reverse the ongoing loss (e.g. Mupepele et al. 2021). In addition to reform processes and adjustments in agricultural policy, non-governmental initiatives in the private sector also play a role in the change processes in Germany (e.g. wildflower strip sponsorship, crowdfunding for insect-friendly mower etc.).
This thesis aims to systematically review of the literature (scientific and grey) on non-governmental, private sector engagement in biodiversity conservation. The target is to gather and analyse non-governmental measures, initiatives, projects and instruments in Germany. The methodical approach of evaluating the identified literature may include qualitative and quantitative methods. In addition, the thesis may include a survey or interviews to verify the identified body of literature.
Skills needed: Sound analytical capabilities, knowledge in conducting systematic literature reviews, advanced German language skills (since many relevant documents are only published in German), affinity for perspectives on agricultural economy; familiarity with qualitative (e.g. MAXQDA) or quantitative (e.g. “bibliometrix” package in R) tools is an asset.
The thesis can be written in German or English (please check your examination regulations).
